ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Blues coach Ken Hitchcock has noticed something about Vladimir Tarasenko in the young Russian forwards first few NHL seasons. If he gets one (goal), hes hungry, Hitchcock said. He gets his game to another level, which is what he did in the third period.Tarasenko recorded his second hat trick of the season as part of a four-point night and the Blues rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 on Tuesday night for their fifth straight victory.Theyre really tough, Tarasenko said of the defending Stanley Cup champion Kings. They have a really good team, and they won last year, so this is good motivation for us and a good challenge. The 23-year-old Tarasenko has 20 goals and 36 points in 31 games. He scored 21 goals and had 43 points in 64 games last season after scoring eight in 38 games as a rookie in the 2012-13 campaign.Vladdy shoots the puck so incredibly well that you just tip your hat, Blues captain David Backes said. Hes got 20 goals already. Hes the real deal. The Blues, who will begin a three-game trip against the Kings on Thursday, improved to 12-3-1 at home and 21-8-2 overall.Hopefully we can build on this momentum, Hitchcock said. I think any time you play against good teams and you prove that you can play with them or you can beat them, it gives us another level of confidence.Los Angeles (15-11-6) has lost three straight and five of six. The Kings have dominated the Blues in recent seasons, winning seven of eight in the regular season and 17 of 21, including the playoffs. This one is a sour one for sure, Kings centre Anze Kopitar said. We have to put this one behind us. Theres a new one on Thursday and we have to make sure were ready for that one.The Kings had taken control when Marian Gaborik scored twice in the second period.Gaboriks first, at 5:39, came after a shot by Justin Williams from the left circle. The rebound was knocked around in the crease before Gaborik poked it in.Los Angeles took advantage of an interference penalty by rookie defenceman Petteri Lindbohm for Gaboriks second goal.Gaborik tipped a centring pass from Kopitar off the left post and into the net to give the Kings a 2-0 lead with 9:00 remaining in the period. Our team usually closes things out leading by two, Kings forward Justin Williams said. We didnt do it tonight. Its very frustrating.Tarasenko answered Gaboriks second goal with his 18th of the season, assisted by Steve Ott and Chris Butler, at 12:29.The Blues then jumped on the Kings in the third period, following penalties by Dustin Brown and Robyn Regehr.Jaden Schwartz tipped in Kevin Shattenkirks shot on a two-man power play to tie it 2-2 at 11:20. Tarasenko gave the Blues the lead with a 5-on-4 goal just 40 seconds later, and Alexander Steen scored at even strength at 13:50.You kind of felt it in the game, Backes said. It was time to sink or swim. Our guys responded really well. We get on our horse and start playing our game where were getting pucks and forcing them to take a couple penalties there and we get a 5-on-3.Then we get one on the second half of that penalty, as well, and from there I think you started to see that glimmer in our eyes. Enough of taking a back seat to these guys, we can play with them when were all in on the effort.Tarasenko scored his 20th goal of the season into an empty net with 1:24 remaining. They scored four goals on not too many shots, Los Angeles coach Darryl Sutter said.NOTES: Blues F T.J. Oshie missed the game because of family reasons, but is expected to travel with the team for its upcoming trip. ... Blues D Carl Gunnarsson missed his fourth consecutive game due to a concussion. ... The Blues are 17-1 this season when scoring at least three goals. . St. Louis has outscored opponents 13-2 in the third period during the winning streak. Tony Phillips Jersey . Mark McGwire Jersey . -- Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf has been suspended two games for his hit from behind on Kevan Miller of the Bruins.LONDON -- After a brand-building slog around the Far East and Australia, the serious business of managing Manchester United is beginning for David Moyes. The newcomer could excuse lacklustre results on the preseason tour while getting acquainted with the United side he inherited from Alex Ferguson. But starting Sunday, theres little margin for error. In the traditional curtain raiser to the English season, Premier League champion United faces FA Cup winner Wigan at Wembley Stadium. Though the Community Shield is rarely considered a major piece of silverware, it presents Moyes the chance to pick up his first trophy as United manager. Moyes only honour so far is the third-tier title he won with Preston in 2000 before 11 impressive but trophyless years with Everton. He was hand-picked, though, by Ferguson to succeed him after a 27-year United reign that produced 38 trophies -- including 10 Community Shields. "I will be trying to make this the first trophy of many," Moyes said. "But, if we win, its really something that will have been earned by Sir Alex." "Its because of his good work in the Premier League last season that were in the Community Shield. Ill do my best to finish off the job but its Sir Alex who will deserve a lot of the credit if were successful at Wembley." Moyes has already said its "impossible" to try to match the trophy haul of his fellow Scotsman. The success, however, will have to continue. "Were almost there as far as preseason goes," Moyes said. "I think wed like to have a bit more continuity than what weve had. Weve had one or two players dropping in and out because of injury, but the players have been great." Apart from Wayne Rooney, perhaps. Frustrated at his playing time last season, the 27-year-old Rooney asked Ferguson toward the end of the season to be allowed to leaave the 20-time English champions.dddddddddddd The striker, though, is being denied a move to rival Chelsea, with United rejecting two bids and stating that he wont be sold. "You dont need to convince anybody to play for Manchester United," was Moyes latest stance on Rooneys future this week. There is only a slim chance of Rooney facing Wigan, which was relegated to the second tier after winning the FA Cup, with United disclosing that he has a shoulder injury after missing the tour matches with hamstring troubles. United won just two of its six preseason tour matches against the backdrop of the Rooney saga and the struggle to sign reinforcements. Efforts to sign former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona seemed to hit a wall on Thursday, and Thiago Alcantara already opt to leave Barca for Bayern Munich instead of Old Trafford. "We appreciate Cesc is a contracted player at Barcelona and completely respect everything Cesc has said," United said Thursday after Fabregas said he wanted to stay with the Spanish champions. Sundays game at Wembley will be the first time United has played at the national stadium since 1985 without Ferguson in the dugout. Even Wigans manager will find it strange encountering Moyes instead. "Sir Alex was there for a long time, particularly for football," Coyle said. "The way football works, that time is probably worth 10 times that amount in any other walk of life." For Coyle, though, Moyes was the "natural successor." "It is great to see a home-grown manager evolving to that level," Coyle said. Wigans season has already begun because, after winning the FA Cup at Wembley in May, the team was relegated from the Premier League. The trophy success saw manager Roberto Martinez enticed by Everton to replace Moyes, with Coyle taking charge at Wigan.
